RJD2, Deadringer: Deluxe
2009 | Label: RJ's Electrical Connections / The Orchard

Though he has credibility as a hip-hop producer, RJD2 belongs here in part because Deadringer was so often (and accurately) described as an heir to DJ Shadow's landmark 1996 Endtroducing. Sharing that record's adventurous musical spirit and sampling virtuosity, RJD2 pushes his own work in a messier, less carefully composed direction. the deluxe version came out in 2009. eMusic posts the publishing date on all albums. All my Bowie albums have release dates in the 2000s. Do your homework.

Why does eMusic seem to always have the wrong album release dates? Deadringer came out in 2002. Not interested in doing homework? Don't care? Aaaargh! 2009? Really?

Whoa (My mouth is still wide open...)

Amazing album by RJD2. My favorite of his too. "Ghostwriter" and "The Horror" are out this world (and sound like it too).

Not quite...

On the original CD there was a hidden track "Here's Whats Left" perhaps one of the most beautiful soul/Hip Hop songs i have heard, don't rest till you find it.

Complete at last...

Ghostwriter is such a fine tune. Extra tracks are both up to the high standards set by the rest of the album.

By Hua Hsu, Contributor

One night a few years ago I was zipping through the traffic maze of Los Angeles, on my way to meet the producer Nobody on the occasion of his just-released debut album, Soulmates. He had given me very vague directions, and so the signal strength of KXLU, where he was doing his weekly radio show, helped guide my path. As the static cleared, I grew more confused: what was he playing? Rather than the Project… more »
