If you're expecting the jangily synth-pop of Aztec Camera of the 80s, this isn't it. If you're looking for a mature artist who has created a masterpiece, and in many people's opinion, the best work of his career, look no further. One of my fave albums of the last 10 years.
I know it's almost 25 years later but I've been waiting for Roddy Frame to come close to the heights he reached with Aztec Camera's 1984 release, Knife. After reading the reviews here, I thought he might have done it. But, try as I have, I just can't seem to LIKE this album.
This album is a masterpiece great songs beautifully recorded with Roddy playing solo.Really life affirming and a joy to listen to. An absolute must for all songwriters and fans of well constructed songs.
Every earnest young soul who feels the urge to bleat out his/her emotions to the world should listen to this - and recognise a true master at work. Frame's singing is better than ever and the sheer quality of his guitar playing is a joy. It's a piece of understated brilliance -I've been playing it for years and never tire of it!
