Der Strudel

e-strings

It could be because this was the first ruins song I actually listened to, but Der Strudel is my all time favorite Ruins song. I was panning through the tracks until I got the odd ear-catching wierdness that begins this song, then the song took off, and by the end I was a complete convert. It was one of those orgasmic listening experiences that true music lovers are occasionally lucky to have. The rest of the album quickly fell into place. After this album, I was a bit dissapointed that the rest of there stuff wasn't produced with this same cheap-overdriven sound....oh well. For my money this can't be beat, especially from what they have here on emusic.

Mix of great and not so great songs

VesaM

Many of the sings included have not that great sound quality (due to the original recording I guess). That actually adds to the album. With the songs I don't like (or some that I dislike) that adds to the problem. I suggest you to not to be discouraged with what might not sound so good, but go trough the album and pick what you might like. From amongst the 4 first ok songs you might find naive "Stara Planina" (3.) to work out very well after all. Same goes with "Empty hands" (6.), "Der Strudel" (7.). I can live well with songs trough 9 to 16, "Burning stone" (14.) geing work of a genius and "Calnac" (11.) carrying very nice Magma-athmosphere. Tastes vary so pick what you bear to listen to...

They Say All Music Guide

The first Ruins release to feature new bassist Sasaki Hishashi, a longtime vet of the Japanese grindcore scene, Refusal Fossil doesn’t deviate at all from the pattern of previous releases — this is music of extreme intensity, unforgiving bass-and-drum noise typified by stop-on-a-dime tempos and time signatures and lyrics sung in a language plainly not of this earth.
