Flawless intimate music of a far less poluted time
Rumer: Original or Wonderful Cover? Is she Karen Carpenter with bits of Joni Mitchell, K.D. Lange, and Jane Sibery or something truely her own? Many songs are refreshing, fully realized updates. But Rumer confidently inhabits them as well as her own. Her sense of music comes from a time less poluted by the noise and futility. Rumer sings in a way not in fashion for almost two generations. I look forward to her branching out on her own writing, which is beautiful now. The touchstones here are: 1. Slow (Simply Red-esk) 2.Come to Me High (K.D. Lange "Ingenue") 9. Thankful (Joni Mitchell "Blue")10. On My Way Home (a la Jane Sibery). 11. Goodbye Girl (shockingly mature / less sweet than the original). 13. The Warmth of the Sun (Rumer can breath life into...anything!) At least listen. Highly recommended for download.
