Rough voice, ideas=folk blues!
Tom Waitts has a rough voice. His songs are insightful, and can be life scraped down to the essentials. Ryan does something like that. A craggy set of pipes. An accoustic guitar with accompanying musicians (country-rock steeped in blues). Captain Beefheart's songs would not be as fun without his strangled frog voice. Enjoy the rusted pipes and the rest of Ryan's music. Recommended.
