Close to the ultimate in headphone listening
This is an album of both classic simplicity and intricate musicianship; perfect for a stomp in the winter months or for late night studying at the college library. Sean Carey plays in Justin Vernon's project Bon Iver, and although one should not expect a carbon copy, the making of 'All We Grow' has undoubtedly been influenced by the band that, in my opinion, gave us the stand-out albums of 2007/8 & 2011. Be warned though, this is an album of varying tones. If you are expecting a straight Americana album, you might be disappointed. This is an album that moves between genres, tempos and gears, yet still manages to flow. For those worried about samey tracks however, there is little chance of disappointmet. The three stand-out songs are very distinct: from the alt-folk of "Mothers", to the jazz-fusion crescendo of "In the Dirt", and the piano-based "In the Stream" - a song as beautiful as anything released in the last few years.
