Aleppo is widely regarded as an important centre of Arab music. Sabri Mudallal (1918-2006) was a marvelous artist and this recording is a perfect example of a profane songs suite. I heard Sabri Mudallal live in Cairo in 1996: he was over 75 years old and his voice gave me thrills.
