Pushing the envelope of human voice
I guess somebody ought to review this, since there's nothing else written here but a rather lame reason for *not* downloading it! Sainkho's wordless shamanistic improvisations here could be heard as more purely exemplary of what she does than more selective recordings like Naked Spirit. She's unaccompanied except by (acoustic) bass one some tracks plus drums on a few. You may not want to call this "music", but if you open your ears you might hear subtleties (like the overtones on the first disc) and startling sounds that will engage your inner animal. Sometimes it's hard to believe that this is a human voice -- then a second later it verges on the operatic. I dunno about Yoko Ono (who IS Asian, isn't she?) since i haven't heard her stuff, but other comparisons that come to mind are Nina Hagen and Diamanda Galas -- only Sainkho is more primitive. Or is that primal?
