The sound of the boy/girl country/folk duo the Everybodyfields was sweetly sorrowful, but take away the girl and leave the boy all by his lonesome and the music turns bleaker, more bereft, more damaged. In the very best way possible, of course. Sam Quinn's solo debut allows the singer to show off his distinctive vocals and utterly affecting songwriting, moaning lyrics like "everything will become nothing in time" ("So Strong") and "well things they don't fascinate me/they pick me up and they break me" ("Late the Other Night"). The Fake That Sunk A Thousand Ships is the best kind of sadness binge, the direct-from-the-carton pint of cookie dough ice cream that takes some of the sting out of a long, hard night.
