Makes me look

Katrina

Whenever this gal comes up on random play on my ipod, I need to look and see who it is, because it souds good. I suppose after a few more plays I won't need to look anymore, but you get the idea.

it's all good

goaliedave

I agree - a great artist I wouldn't have discovered without emusic, much like Simon Wilcox's "Too Pretty" and "Bored". "She says" and "Stay" are great driving songs and yes she can sing.

Girls Got Pipes

coryhatton

All songs on this album are good. Why hasn't she had top 40 hits? This girl can sing.

Sweet Surprise

RayC

And this is why I'm a fan of emusic. Sarah Bettens delivers a great album. Re-re-re-listenable. For all its flaws, here's what I love about emusic. Great artists that I get turned on to when I find a kindred soul's selection listed. Having said that, I heartily endorse all regulars review their likes and dislikes. There are the guides that lead us to treasures like this.

Great Indie Sound

Rockfish

Found this from the free download and stayed for more. Sarah has a great voice and insightful lyrics to boot, reminds me a little of Nicole Nordeman. Thought it might be too edgy from the photo but not at all, more sweet than cynical. Try "Fine" and "One Second", every cut is worth a listen.

Thank You Dinosaur

Greeble

I downloaded this album after reading Dinosaur's, whose musical taste seem similar to mine, review. Thank you. I like every cut on the record. Sarah Betten's voice is awesome and reminds me some of Marianne Faithful. While no cut just reaches out and grabs me they are all strong and taken together make an outstanding record.

missing K's Choice...

veralee

This is a good album. But it's not as good as "Cocoon Crash," which is one of my favorite albums ever... It's not generally as creative or as sharp as K's Choice's albums, BUT it does show a lot of promise. "Sister," "Don't Let me Drag you Down," and "Follow Me" are very good songs. I will look forward to future releases.

Download it!

Dinosaur

I've been a K's Choice fan for years, I even got to see them live in the US once. So when I saw Sarah Bettens on emusic, I almost jumped up out of my seat. I downloaded it immediately and it's one of the best I've ever downloaded. Her voice is amazingly hypnotic and powerful. This is one that I would gladly pay more than retail price to have in my collection, and I got it for emusic cheap! Life is good!

They Say All Music Guide

The first U.S. solo release by Sarah Bettens, better known as the lead singer of Belgian alt-rockers K’s Choice, Scream isn’t far removed from Bettens’ earlier releases. The title track kicks the record off with a glossy punch of polite power pop in the manner of Letters to Cleo or Juliana Hatfield and would have been an excellent addition to the K’s Choice canon. Songs like “Stay,” with its peculiarly retro blend of ’80s-style synths on the “strings” setting and Lilith Fair-era acoustic guitar, and the white girl funk-pop of “Come Over Here” are a little more subdued than K’s Choice tended to be, although Bettens’ appealing voice keeps them afloat. – Stewart Mason
