An American Sikh channels Enya on this joyful recording.
2006 | Label: SatKirin Kaur Khalsa / CD Baby

Sometimes healing music is simply music that can make one feel happy. At the end of the day, is it not health and happiness we desire in the midst of falling dollars and rising mortgages? When I was in the presence of the Dalai Lama, I was struck most by his sense of humor, so it seems to me that something as simple as feeling good could be the best healing medicine there is. That's where Lightness of Being comes into focus. This is a joyful recording by SatKirin Kaur Khalsa, an American Sikh who sounds somewhat similar to Enya. While I cannot attribute any specific healing response to her music, listening to it made me feel really happy — especially the repetitive joy channeled on the wonderfully esoteric, "Magic mantra-reverse negative to positive-Ek Ong Kar Satgur" where Kaur Khalsa repeats "Ek Ong Kar Satgur" (a Kundalini yoga chant) over and over, accompanied by the sweet strumming of acoustic guitar, light dounbek and a dozen overdubs of her angelic voice.

I spent my night in emergency hell, shielding my eyes from the blinding fluorescent light rays,… more »
