While the band put out a couple of solid, some would even say classic, concept albums, I have always liked the albums where they focused more on individual songs. Song for song, Hall of the Mountain King is one of their best. The only real misfire is "White Witch," a power metal song with cheesy lyrics (though it is refreshing to hear a metal band attempt an anti-drug song) and a simplistic song structure. It just sounds juvenile compared to the rest of the songs on the album. Highlights are "24 Hrs Ago," "Strange Wings," "Prelude to Madness/Hall Of The Mountain King," and "Devastation."
