1 truly great track

Scala was frustrating, because at their best they could make songs that either were terribly evocative or else held a bit of the avant-garde promise of Seefeel. For every good track though there was a lot of filler, half-baked tracks that weren't even full songs. If you had the EP's on here and the other album you could make one great album from it all. From this album you'd want Ride Me. I wonder if folks would consider it dated, but that shredding sound ripping over Sarah Peacock's child-like voice captures what was great about Loveless. Aside from this track, Torn and Hold Me Down are the best of the rest. Four stars for the greatness of Ride Me.

Beauty Nowhere is a proper blend of the trademark sounds of each artist involved; while Locust’s Mark Van Hoen constructs noise-scapes of twisting, cavernous percussion, Seefeel members Peacock, Fletcher and Seymour work on processing their respective instruments for maximum reverb and delay. Though each track is interesting (at least from a production standpoint), the only track that truly comes together on Beauty Nowhere is the finale, the disco-in-a-ring-modulator cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass.” – John Bush
