Klaus Mein's voice is in much better shape than one would expect after all these years and miles, and the guitars never sounded so thick...I was very pleasantly surprised at the rich sonics of the re-done classickz from their back catalog. The covers are a nice bonus, and tasty selections at that, including a nice version of Tin Soldier originally done by The Small Faces.
It used to be easier to pretend that an album was its own perfectly self-contained artifact. The great records certainly feel that way. But albums are more permeable than solid, their motivations, executions and inspirations informed by, and often stolen from, their peers and forbearers. It all sounds awfully formal, but it's not.
