Ragtime is 2/4 time. Easy, slow and relaxed. Ragtime isn't jazz, it was "jazzed" up later on in life and I believe that incarnation to be an insult to a more relaxed time. Richard Zimmerman does a credible homage to Mr. Joplin and I would highly recommend this album as an example of the art that epitomized a turn of the century artist that was Scott Joplin.

Best of the eMusic Options

BlueBeth

I agree with Omanand, that this is the best of the Joplin albums on eMusic. There is another, shorter one "Gladiolus Rag" that has the wrong song listed as Bethena (the Bethena on the Zimmerman album is the correct piece). I still like the Rifkin album better than the Zimmerman one, but the Rifkin one isn't available here (yet).

This music just makes me smile! Omanda is correct it really makes a difference having a real live player playing!

Sensitive and fun

Omanand7

Among all the choices of Scott Joplin recordings here on eMusic, this album seems to be the only one that features a real human piano player rather than a machine. What a difference! You hear variations in tempo and volume that really bring the music to life. Download and enjoy.
