An 11-song, 20-minute blast of street-level hardcore, Scraps and Heart Attacks’ Still Sick delivers more than just your minimum daily requirement of thrash. While sacrificing none of the music’s elemental power, they wisely vary their attack just enough to keep things from getting boring and repetitive. Songs like the pummeling “Next Stop, Harvard Ave” and “Queen of Prussia” are by-the-book hardcore, but the Long Island-based quartet is smart enough to add changeups, like the almost-grindcore howls of “The Organ Sounds” and the compelling, Joy Division-like use of bass as a lead instrument on “Do the Math.” They’re subtle but effective differences, just enough to pull Still Sick above the pack of forgettable sound-alike hardcore records. – Stewart Mason
