I love this album. Each song has so much going on for it, and it is so unique as to defy any current genre name. Secret Mommy mixes glitch and acoustic sounds into something both beautiful and fun to listen to. It's electronica that doesn't sound like electronica; it's a remix album for songs that never existed; it is new, down to earth, and sounds like nothing you've ever heard before.
That is to say, it's excellent. Reminds me very much of Opsvik & Jennings, who I also highly recommend.
This is what the music of the future sounds like. The brilliance of combining the warmth of analog musicians with the clinical precision of the digital slices creates a brilliant and welcoming sound. Particular standouts are "Kool Aid River", "The Tale of a Bird Hit By Lightning", "Plays", and "A Bear At Hotel Cuba". It may take a couple listens before you see where Secret Mommy is going, but the trip is delightful.
This album is beautiful; it's so much more varied and idiosyncratic than you'd expect from just listening to one track. Several songs are distinct style exercises that work perfectly; they give the whole a feel much stronger and more melodic than most glitch music.
