Beyond the recording sounding full and rich, the performances are smooth, dynamic, and flawless. This is a must have.

I've heard performances by many pianists and orchestras but none betters this!

My I-Pod for 72 year old man

I am an old lover of Beethoven from my childhood as my Father played in Los Angeles CA groups playing the classical music. I played the radio and learned to fly in the Navy. I took a record player with me to war and listened to Rudolf Serkin as a young guy very good even then. Today I am filling up my RCA I-Pod with this group of Beethoven Concertos and they sound better in the ear phones than I have ever heard this music! It is the BEST. Period.

Recorded in the early to mid-80's, these are among the last recordings from Serkin. The orchestra is as fine as you will ever find for these concerti. Excellent sound, though the piano surprisingly sounds a bit removed and often with very little tonal difference, voiced bright. Excellent recordings, especially the early concerti. Well worth having these historic recordings as one of your several of Beethoven's five.
