Title leads you to believe these are all original

margaretd

Glad I listened to the first AND ONLY download of this album..If I had wanted to get music that was of this caliber I would go to Walmart. At least there I KNOW I am getting ripped off!

Hit The Preview Link Then Decide >>>

SurfCitySoundsPlus

I suggest previewing the audio clip by clicking on the green arrow next to the song title before deciding about downloading...That way you'll know if it's the original or not...

Re-Recordings

Arctic_Surfer

This is not the type of material that EMusic should be presenting and packaging. Re-recordings are inferior as they do not reflect the technology and the sound of the day. This is not why I come here.

What a rip off

Dono7

Neatly packaging a few minor original artist hits with re-recorded versions produced by bands that may only contain one original member under the guise of being the original groups & original hit version of the song that got all the radio play is a deceptive marketing practice & should be stopped & dropping in a few original versions to enhance the deception & using other artists versions of hit songs to trick those that can't remember who originally recorded the song but recognize the title is deceptive as well. This kind of trickery is disgusting. Anything to make a buck right? Shame on you guys for packaging and marketing what you know all to well is an album of so called oldies that is littered with out takes, substandard versions of songs & re-recorded versions of tracks nobody would buy if they could hear the entire track instead of a small window clip designed to make people think they are getting the original hit versions. You guys STINK!

These are covers by other people. So misleading. I want my money back.

Some Authentic, Some not 8-(

OldRocker

Some of these appear to be the original recordings, a lot are re-recordings or other groups. Buyer BEWARE!!

You can go to Walmart and get compliations with the original recordings easier than you can find them here. What's the deal??

But that album cover!!

jugaluck

I would give this 5 stars for the album cover alone. These are how the stewardess's (no flight attendants yet) from the now defunct PSA airlines looked. Yes, that was really their uniform! As for the music, that's another subject.

Don’t Forget (The Rest of) The Motor City

By John Morthland, eMusic Contributor

Everybody knows Motown was great, but few realize what an incubator the entire City of Detroit was for soul music in its heyday. For each artist on Berry Gordy’s label there were several more just as good who went with another major, or with a smaller, local indie. Some made their names in r&b, vocal groups or gospel before evolving into soul; others started in soul but had their greatest impact in funk. But even… more »

Rising Tide of Female Jazz Singers

By Dan Ouellette, eMusic Contributor

While the legendary voices of such jazz icons as Billie, Ella and Sarah still ring true, subsequent generations of female jazz vocalists have taken the music in new directions, especially in the '90s, ranging from Cassandra Wilson's new-standard caress to Diana Krall's classics with a twist. Taking their lead, young singers over the last decade have been swinging the vocal tradition onto a new plateau with a pop sensibility. In the mix are tunes by… more »

Townfolk Hip-Hop

By Tambi Younes, Label Relations Coordinator

Nirvana and Pearl Jam. This is who you'll hear about when the topic of Seattle's music scene is brought up in a historical context. It makes sense. Alternative music has always been the face of the Seattle scene. But before Kurt and Eddie, there was Ray and Quincy and Jimi. Seattle has soul, and the hip-hop community in the 206 is the living proof. They love their hometown and the music reflects that. "Townfolk Hip-Hop"… more »

Teenage Graceland

By Wayne Robins, eMusic Contributor

After Elvis went into the Army and before the British Invasion, the years 1958-63 were rock's forgotten years. But they were the years that shaped the musical tastes of baby boomers and of acts from the Beatles and Rolling Stones to Bruce Springsteen and the Ramones. Hear the dance sensations, the one-hit-wonders, the girl groups and doo-wop singers, surfers and rockabilly twangers, the birth of Motown, the evolution of R&B into soul and so much… more »
