They Say All Music Guide

Grossly underrated in the mainstream though frequently name-dropped in hardcore circles, Sharks Keep Moving takes the experimentalism and shifting structures of math rock and crafts them into abrasive but thoughtful indie rock. The band’s full-length debut finds a contemplative tempo and quirky lyrics carrying the rock outfit into spacious and powerful compositions akin to Minus the Bear and Karate. From the sleepy, country-tinged “Join Up” to the sprawling, ten-minute-long “Third Instrumental,” these punks from bands like the Blood Brothers and Kill Sadie prove that they craft richly progressive downtempo tunes with the best of them. These songs seem to float a few feet off the ground, complexly imagining what could be. – Charles Spano
