The Shirelles, The Shirelles
1999 | Label: RKO Records / The Orchard

If the Ronettes were the hotties of girl-groupdom and the Shangri-Las were the black-leather rebels, the Shirelles were the genre's all-American sweethearts. Led by the cashmere-voiced Shirley Allston, the group's perfect encapsulations of teenage longing still ring true today — songs you'll find here, like "Soldier Boy" and "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow," remain all too pertinent.

Best girl group of all time

RockinDaddio

Not packaged and sold like the Supremes, they have a soul sound you can't buy.

Sound quality is great; this was a top girl band in it's day & rightly so.

i don't know where the one reviewer got the idea that these were on warwick records..try scepter records.that's more accurate. baby it's you and will you love me tomorrow were released on scepter but at different times and the lables weren't identical in appearance. while many of the oldies artists released mono albums, often times a stereo album was also released, the mono recording being a few dollars less/.sonny & cher's 'look at us" lp(1964,atco records)is one example of this

The Shirelles were my father's favorite group. After years of resistance I finally took this album for a spin. Of course I'd heard most of the tracks before, but listening to them all at once, makes you appreciate them as a group all the more.

Not

Actually they're not the originals. The originals were mono, on the warwick label.

Being an Oldie I like this kind of music. It has good fidelity.
