Sublimely nifty
Shooglenifty are adept at taking the Scots/Celtic tradition in new directions with original tunes, harmonies and rhythms. This collection takes it even further, as their playfulness becomes even more subtle. Their previous studio albums have alternated between purely faithful recordings of the instruments and manipulations of the tracks that usually enhance the sound and break up the folkiness (or at least the seriousness) of the music. This collection includes both types, and ventures even further into uncharted but very infectious musical territory. One of their best, i think.
