great singing & playing

weirduncledaverome

I was lucky enough to see these guys at Fairport Convention's Cropredy festival during my one and only trip to the UK in 96. I became an immediate fan and bought their Live at Albert Hall disc at the festival. I like this one even better. Phil Beer & Steve Knightley are oustanding performers, and Steve's songs are both deeply traditional and adventerous. Here they are joined by singer/bassist Miranda Sykes. Check out Country Life, or the Cornish expatriate song Cousin Jack. You don't have to be English to relate to these songs of a lost way of life. But be careful- there's a lot of great SOH material on emusic, and you could wind up hooked like I am.
