Hooray for the Opera in English series! The translation is perhaps a little less spicy than the original, but it just makes it a pleasure to listen and follow everything. Mackerras makes things go at a nice clip, and the singers are adequate to the task (the lovers are all appropriate, but I would have liked a little more age from Don Alfonso and a little more edge from Despina). Highly enjoyable--makes this opera what it is supposed to be: a lot of fun.
