Sir Victor's 1st LP
This is Sir Victor Uwaifo's 1st LP from 1969, nothing more nothing less. Recording quality is what you'd expect from Africa '69, so check the samples (what you hear is what you get). But this is vintage stuff, a nice complement to the Soundway comp. 'Guitar Boy Superstar' also avail. here on eMusic & highly recommended (there are no duplicates). If you liked that & can handle the sound, not much worse than on that album, this is worth checking out -- if you're already a fan, you'll want it. It has the original versions of a few early hits like 'Joromi' (not the 80's remake on 'Greatest Hits Vol. 1') and other gems in a variety of traditional rhythms, all with Sir V's incomparable guitar work. What you don't get here or anywhere on eMusic is the original 60's version of his first hit 'Guitar Boy & Mamywater' (the version on 'Greatest Hits' is likewise a remake) but it's on the 'Rough Guide to Highlife'. ... This is really 4.5 stars, with a half star off for the sound.
