Slavic Soul Party!, Slavic Soul Party! In Makedonija
2004 | Label: Knitting Factory - Instinct / Virtual

Macedonia is where the Balkans edge into the Mediterranean. You can hear the resulting mix of cultures in the sound of Slavic Soul Party! — the brass still booms, and the clarinet, with its echoes of klezmer, flutters in and out between the other instruments, but there's a greater sense of warmth and space in the music. "Seva" sounds as if someone had airlifted a Dixieland band into Skopje, while "Blue Pepper" swings like crazy and kicks up its heels with abandon.
