The Rick Rubin-produced "Reign In Blood" was Slayer's breakout album, and perhaps the best in its impressive catalogue. The songs are short, frenetic and frightening (as well as frighteningly accomplished), and they perfectly capture the spirit of the early-mid '80s thrash metal scene. Although the album's gory Satanic imagery may no longer shock, the music remains immediate and impressive.
