dark but catchy electro post-punk
snapline hail from the Beijings vibrant post-punk scene. but unlike carsick cars (whom they share members with),who are clearly followers of sonic youth and the clean, snapline reside at the electro new-wave end of the post-punk spectrum. whilst this album is a touch inconsistent the best is excellent. the guitar work is particularly notable managing to get a diverse set of sounds and textures without ever getting in the way of a good song. 'Close your Cold Eyes' with its danceable drums is a highly addictive piece of new wave punk pop. 'Let In' features overlapping 'Girls and Boys' era Damon Albarn-esque vocals to great effect. 'Catch you Low' is a dark and tense punky affair. the real standout though is 'pornostar' where echoing guitars, a fantastic dark bassline and dreamy, detached vocals combine to create something that is throughly dark and spooky without ever becoming wanky or self-indulgent. An impressive debut from a band that deserve to be known far beyond Beijing.
