We frustrated dream-pop fans consider ourselves lucky to corral one decent release a year in this forlorn category -- and finally, with less than two months to spare, here it is. Inventive, energetic, and with well-placed softer interludes for variety.
But this album is taking me back to my favorite period in music. The British Indie scene in the early to mid 90's is my absolute favorite. These guys have taken me back there in a big way. There's nothing new here, just super songwriting and great production. I f!@#ing love this record. This will definitely be a part of my top 10 for 2007.
This is an excellent first record from a Dream Pop/Shoegaze band from California. Solar Powered People's sound, when blasted from the speakers, is like that of a hug from a gigantic grizzly bear. Warm, soft, yet ferocious and abrasive. There will be claw marks in your back and trickles of blood! Huge guitars, spacey vocals, and lush keys are backed by very precise bass playing and drumming. All of the hooks are waiting to grab you within the multi-layered sound. The beautiful thing of Solar Powered People's music is that you will never know where the hooks will come from.
