Minimalist gem

KabukiEyebrow

Satoh's music isn't for everyone, as evidenced by one or two reviews. Clearly, Satoh is not Pärt, but why should he be? I bought the CD in the late 90s, and it still feels fresh. Satoh's music is informed, naturally, by his Asian background, not Estonia. As such, it has always felt like a meditation, whereas Pärt's music is more prayerful. As a long-time fan of composers such as Tan Dun, Morton Feldman, Sorabji, Ingram Marshall, and Terry Riley (especially as recorded by Kronos Quartet), I highly recommend this particular album by Satoh.

Album redefines "soporific"

holyworrier

Chord progressions smack of Arvo Pärt, whose work is much more interesting because his aesthetic is multi-textured, purposeful. His dissonance isn't gratuitous. This Satoh has the aesthetic of a soap bubble.

Not a jazz album

Aminsaha

There is a truly superb Somei Satoh album hidden under the jazz section http://www.emusic.com/album/Margaret-Leng-Tan-LITANIA-MP3-Download/10996048.html Please look at this. The recording of Birds In Warped Time is better than the other recording we have on e-music. One day we'll appreciate composers like Mr Satoh better than we do today. A true genius.
