Very few music stores have ever made a serious attempt to separate the work of the two Sonny Boys. Ironically, the Sonny Boy who stole the name is probably the one whose music is the better known of the two. As you look at the music of the two "Sonny Boys," its up to you figure out which is which. Since they played the same instrument and some of the same songs, this can be tricky. Generally Sonny Boy I's material is earlier, from the 30's and 40's (and sounds it, recording-wise). Sonny Boy II recorded from the late 40's to the mid 60's, and you can hear the difference.
