Wow. Boring.

321Brooks

She has plenty of time to develop her own unique style and some artistic credibility, but she's got a long way to go still. This album is incredibly boring, cliched, predictable, etc.

Brilliant - I want more!

This is now one of my favourite albums, and Sonya Kitchell is now one of my favourite singer-songwriters. The blues tunes are tight and highly professional, and the performances are stellar. I can't believe this girl is so young. Picks for me are 'Can't get you out of my mind', and 'Too Beautiful', but the whole album is brilliant. I can't wait to find more of this fantastic talent.

Stellar!

This album should have won a Grammy, hands down. This is sophisticated pop songwriting at it's best, and delivered with soul and skill, backed by very tasteful and complementary production. One of the best albums of originals that I have heard in years. Played regularly here.

Excellent album

Nothing has grabbed my aural attention in the past three months like this album. The music is smooth yet bluesy enough to have an edge, lyrical yet Alanis-like enough to make you think she's singing from the heart. The second track "Train" is a little masterpiece. I'm sure she's capable of longer tunes, ones that keep us on edge until she lets us go. Highly recommended.

Paid Full Price and Actually Have a Disc

I read a review and a feature on her in Paste. And heard Let Me Go on a sampler and fell in love. Her voice is remarkable, and the lyrics are mature beyond her age. Since subscribing to eMusic, I've been hesitant about buying music in stores, but not with this album.

Amazing Mix of Artists

Sonya is amazing! Thoughout the CD you get the feelings/sounds of Norah Jones, John Mayer, and even some Jack Johnson. This album is absolutely wonderful!

Musically polished, Lyrically Bland

HeardWorse

For a teenager, Sonya Kitchell's song have remarkable poise. Of the few I've listened too, each one was tightly put together. But I have to agree with and earlier reviewer that her lyrics are forgettable. And even with poise, all of her songs sound a bit derivative (though each in different musical style) as if she's trying to say 'Look, I can play like this, too." 'Can't Get You Out of My Mind' is yet another Memphis-blues torch piece complete with breathy vocals, organs & short guitar fills. But then again, how many teenagers do you know with something really original and important to say? I'll keep my eye on this one.

No American Idol, Thank God

...I heard a profile on her on CNN a couple of days ago and was intrigued by her sound. At 17 she has a long and stellar career ahead if she can get the right management. I almost ran out to Starbucks to buy this (they are featuring her CD in their stores.) Shucks, I guess i'll just download it. To the earlier reviewer who trashed this..SOUR GRAPES...when will we see your CD on eMusic, or anywhere else for that matter..LANER

C'mon, man. Don't be so quick to judge... Have you checked out more than the first 10 second sample on this album? First of all, Sonya Kitchell is just 17 or 18 years old. So her songwriting chops are pretty remarkable considering her age (or even not), and she's a solid guitarist. List the artists you admire most and consider what they were doing at 17 years old. I had the chance to see her live recently, and really enjoyed her and her band. I'm a pretty critical listener, and a life-long musician, who can distinguish style from substance. There's more going on here than I-IV chord progressions; just listen. With an open mind.
