Just Go Ahead Now
The Spin Doctors always seemed to me like a perfect distillation of what rock n' roll was supposed to be in the 90s according to music industry scripts - just before grunge came along tore everything up. Grunge was a good thing, of course, but it meant a perfectly good little rock band like the Spin Doctors ended up casualties to the Seattle Sound. But listen to Pocket again with an open mind and, while you may not be amazed, you'll probably be entertained. If nothing else, it contains two of the greatest pop rock singles of the 90s in "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and "Two Princes". Other standouts: "Off My Line", "More Than She Knows" and the truly weird singles "Jimmy Olsen's Blues" and "What Time Is It?". The Spin Doctors are not a legendary band by any stretch, but they're also not the punchline they sort of became once everyone started taking themselves too seriously. I think they deserve a minor reevaluation.
