Getting by, with a little help from his friends
Ironically, considering his reasons for leaving Genesis for good in 1978, Hackett's subsequent solo record had a somewhat more poppy sound and feel than his ethereal 1975 solo debut 'Voyage of the Acolyte'. Though his guest vocalists (Randy Crawford, Kansas's Steve Walsh and the legendary Richie Havens) come close to upstaging Hackett at times, his own style and influences are clear to be heard, from the opening track (an homage to the C.S. Lewis literary saga, a generation before its movie series began) through the Greek mythology-inspired closer "Icarus Ascending". Also noteworthy is the title track, an instrumental piece that Hackett would later rework, as a member of GTR, into "Hackett To Bits".
