I'm shocked at the lack of raving going on for this gem of an album. "What the Boy Said" is a total stand-out, catchy as fuck and completely worthy of beginning the mind-melding journey that this album presents. "The Harvestman" is also amazing if you're baked - but you don't need any additives to fully appreciate what these guys are doing. It defies description and simply must be heard to be appreciated fully.
This is one amazing pop gem. Sugarplastic has more musical ideas in oe song then most group do in an entire album and that's just for the writing aspect of "Will". The production is stunning and beautiful. One thing that goes much over looked with the Sugarplastic is the truly remarkable guitar playing. Check out "harvestman" and the multi layered and nimble attack. The song "will" also greatly illistrates this with a simple pattern of slow notes that by themselves evoke the mourning and dispair of the death of a friend. It is the closest thing I have heard to a guitar adagio. This album is SO worth the downloads. If you are a fan of pop this one's for you.
I've been waiting for this one to be moved over from CDBaby. As "Will" is my favorite record for the year, nothing has come even close to it. Primarily self produced and recorded it has densely layered vocals and guitars with peppy drums and melodic bass lines. May not be for everyone as it could be a bit to quirky for it's own good with it's changing tempos, 20's style vocals, etc. This one should be most definitely be on end of year best of ofs...
