super great

This thing has been out of print so long, and is so good--possibly my favorite release from a Flying Nun artist, and it'll be nice to replace my cassette copy, which is in the closet somehwere. May be mistaken, but I always thought this was an ep compilation (i.e., not a curated selection of tracks). The other album on emusic ("Sky Above. . ") is worth checking out if you've ever been a fan.

there have been so many brilliant releases by these guys that it would be criminal of you to die not having heard this, their sole proper american release. Pretty much a greatest hits, no song fails to impress.

So it's no surprise that their station is going to be full of gritty goodness, both from their own label vaults and the artists that inspired them. So dive into the world of Goner, and read more about them in our label profile. more »

They Say All Music Guide

Leaving the bulk of their catalog to the Flying Nun label, Tall Dwarfs have found another friend in the Homstead imprint for releasing this excellent collection of tracks from a handful of the group’s rare EP’s. The New Zealand lo-fi innovators are certainly well-represented with these 22 varied and top-notch sides from the first half of the ’80s. With plenty of deft guitar, organ, and handclapping work to go around, fans new to Hello Cruel World will soon understand why it gave the Dwarfs their widest audience after being released in the late ’80s. – Stephen Cook
