exploring the visceral world of voice
This first album by a remarkable musician from Nunavut is very like a companion to Bjork's "Medulla" (to which Tagaq contributed some vocals). It's almost entirely vocal, includes some traditional Inuit throat singing but mostly carries the tradition in new directions. (Her second album "Auk/Blood" carries it further still, but much of it relegates the vocals further back in the mix.)
