A Crown Jewel In The Philly Intl Catalog !!!

CJ_Blk

Picking up precisely where his debut album left off, Teddy demonstrated he was a musical force like no other. Another skillfully blended project that heated up both the dance floor ("Only You" & "Get Up, Get Down...") and the bedroom ("Close The Door" & "When Somebody Loves You Back"). The album plays from beginning to end like the journey of man seeking the fulfillment of meaningful companionship while still enjoying the zest of life at full tilt. As a single body of work this is one of Gamble & Huff's finest hours as producers and songwriters! The album catpaulted Teddy's solo career to new heights and surely helped to raise the birth rate across black america in the wake of its release. If you only own 1 Teddy Pendergrass album, this is THE ONE to own!

...listening to "Get Up, Get Down Get Funky Get Loose." It's impossible to sit still listening to this in all of it's glory, disco-filled campiness.

This man could not do no wrong by the time this album came out!I was a kid when this came out, so I didn't get it when I saw women going buck wild when Teddy sang "Close The Door". Now I get it! This was when Women was throwing themselves at him. Besides that though, he was a great singer to me, and these songs really expressed that point.

This was the album that convinced anyone who had doubts about the wisdom of Pendergrass leaving Harold Melvin &the Blue Notes that he had made a good decision. Although he only got one R&B hit from the album, there were enough strong ballads and uptempo cuts to show that Pendergrass had the sound, personality, and style to cut it on his own. He would shortly become R&B’s greatest male attraction, but in the interim, Philadelphia International was laying the ground work. – Ron Wynn
