Deft and evocative songwriting that's far from traditional
2011 | Label: Ghost Box / state51

If you grew up in the U.K., the retro-electronica released on the Ghost Box label carries powerful cultural resonance. You can hear echoes, in their sound world, of the “Radiophonic” synthesiser experiments that soundtracked BBC dramas and educational shows and played after TV channels had shut down for the night back the 1970s and early ’80s. The Advisory Circle’s As the Crow Flies taps deeply into this well; the album is punctuated with clipped announcers’… read more »

A masterful album, by a brilliant band

Unkle-Freak

OK, I'll admit I'm from the UK, and old enough that this music does tap into my childhood in some vague but hauntingly powerful way... But I could be from Timbuktu and I'd still love this album as much as I do. The Advisory Circle and their label-mates the Belbury Poly are superb tunesmiths, and you'll find many an earworm on this album burrowing it's way inexorably toward your heart.... And as for the review complaining about a 6 second track at full price... There are 2 short "ident" style tracks on this album, the total length of which is almost an hour. Considering you get the whole album for less than 8Euros I really don't know what on earth there is to grumble about. Emusic's pricing policy can be frustratingly erratic at times, and I won't buy Hiphop/sample albums here as you tend to get lots of short tracks, meaning you end up paying more than you would on the high street, but on average it works out OK, and is HALF the price of certain other digital music providers... ;)

Nice but expensive

Some groovey sounds on this album but Eur0.49 for a 0:06s track, I don't think so Emusic!!
