Great Stuff

JSkrock629

Really good music to listen to when working, for me in particular on architecture projects. Just great background, ambient music that keeps you going and kinda sucks you in. If you can't buy the whole album, pick up Wet The Day, The Audio Pool, The Sailor, Vermillion, or Glimmer for a nice sampling.

Loves it

I love this band so much, I even went back to their 2001 album to get some more. Very sensitive stuff this, thumbs up!

More Swirling Dreaminess from LaValle

robotix

Jimmy LaValle is a diverse musician. Coming from such San Diego hardcore acts as Swing Kids, The Locust, and GoGoGo Airheart, LaValle has branched out and shown us his calmer side with Tristeza and The Album Leaf. On this album, LaVelle has put together more complex, melodic tracks layered over calm drumbeats. With continued progression in his swirling, dreamy sound, The Album Leaf is yet another striking example of LaVelle's abilities as an artful musician.

They Say All Music Guide

Better known as the guitarist for Tristeza, Jimmy LaValle records on his own under the name the Album Leaf; this is his second album. Like the first, it’s a primarily downtempo, guitar-centered record, made up of moody and attractive compositions that feature long lines and slow developmental processes. The more contemplative numbers (“Wet the Day,” “Gust of…”) bring to mind early-’70s Brian Eno; in fact, “Wet the Day” evokes “Discreet Music” specifically in several places. On other tracks, such as the somewhat more energetic “The MP” and a very nice acoustic guitar showpiece called “Story Board,” LaValle brings to mind a more low-tech Durutti Column. On the few occasions that bass and drums enter the mix, the effect is refreshing. This stuff occasionally gets tedious (and on “Hang Over” LaValle is annoyingly out of tune), but if you relax and go with it you’ll probably find it very enjoyable. – Rick Anderson
