Not So much

manitou

Another band influenced by the Kinks and various other 60's mod bands like the Who and the Creation. Unfortunately, it is also another band for whom style trumps substance. The melodies just aren't there. If you like hammond organ with grunge guitars, there's plenty here. But there's alot of that going around, isn't there. In the end what matters is not the sound but the song. For much better mod experiments, check out The Redwalls, The Singles, The Boss Martians, Locksley, and the Reigning Sound.

Mod experiment

Mmarsupilami

Danish band with its hammond organ and an excellent singer/guitarist and drummer on stage. I need no more explonations than this excerpt of Pitchfork review : "The Blue Van are more a controlled science experiment-- what happens when four zealous Danes are brought up smack dab in the middle of nowhere listening almost exclusively to Kinks, Animals, Who, and Doors records?-- than a fresh rock outfit. Their LP The Art of Rolling is an exhumed time capsule of 60s mod and psychedelica. I only want to add to the references also The Small Faces and Spencer Davis Band. If you like this style of music, you will have a lot of plesaure like me, dreaming of Ray Davies or Keith Moon. OK, it's not "trendy" like Pitch likes... The track Revelation of love is available here You can also have the two other tracks of the european release : Have Love Will Travel and Papa's Got a Brand New Bag.
