Great band - Great album
Have seen The Chair live at several of the UK's biggest folk music festivals. They are primarily a live band. They took the 2008 Cambridge festival by storm (I believe they were among the top CD selling artists of the weekend) While this album may not give the whole live experience it does give you some idea of why the band have become so popular - despite their apparently deliberate low-key approach to their own marketting. There's a real cohesion to the musical mix on offer here. From the Orkney Islands (off the Northern tip of Scotland) the eight lads combine tunes from the local traditions with some serioulsy creative rhythmic arrangements. You can almost taste the storm-tossed spindrift in tracks such as the Biscuit Set. Lily and Diana's offers a slightly more reflective moment within the album. Download the album - then look out for them live!
