Lovely stuff!
This 1968 date presents the South African expatriate Blue Notes with the addition of fellow South African Ronnie Beer. The Blue Notes were extremely important for the development of European jazz and constituted the core of the Brotherhood of Breath, which is also available here. This album is much more "straight ahead" than many of the other releases by these musicians, and has less township jive as well as less outer playing, although it is by no means completely devoid of these elements. The marvelous Mongezi Feza shines on trumpet, as does the great alto player Dudu Pukwana. Chris McGregor: piano; Johnny Dyani: bass; Louis Moholo: drums; Mongezi Feza: pocket trumpet; Dudu Pukwana: alto saxophone; Ronnie Beer: tenor saxophone.
