Yeah, don't be put off by All Music Guide

Thunderhead

Obviously the author was expecting more of the fun stuff that made "early hi-ball years" to me mostly uninteresting. This record is rather for depressed shoegazers or Indie-Fans like myself while "hi-ball" would have attracted even Jim Belushi (okay that's a terrible comparison). "Peel" is also very good.

All Music Guide is wrong

This is my favorite Coctails record, and I have them all. It's a subtle, beautiful album that reminds me a little of Nick Drake's Pink Moon and anticipates Archer Prewitt's solo career. Yes, this is very different from their earler stuff, but a very worthy disc nonetheless.

They Say All Music Guide

Taking up where Peel left off, the last Coctails album is a guitar-based, autumnal record. But while Peel was made great by its eclecticism, this album is dominated by lengthy, slow instrumental pieces. Without the unrestrained fun of their early material or the polished pop of their heyday, the record sags. The album flies by in an occasionally pretty, but unmemorable haze — in fact it sounds more like background music for a film than an official release. With nothing to break up the monotony of 55 minutes of instrumental guitar, the album stands as an unfortunate end to an excellent career. – Ari Wiznitzer
