Bad yes, but...
If you have a download to spare, The Box Tops' rerecording of "The Letter" is worth it for Chilton nerds. Neat to hear him sing it again some 30 years later (this remake is from 1996).

I also grew up during this period and have some of the origianl recordings. These are absolutely not the same. Don't waste your time downloading them.
once again, very disappointed that the songs are not the originals
the day before i shipped out for 'Nam,some buddies came by and took me to the local beer joint, and it did little for the depressed state of mind i was in.Well i finally got up the nerve to ask this gal to dance [the thought of where i headed off to in the morning faded away for a few hours],and wile we were dancing "this diamond ring" came on the jukebox, and it was one of the songs that stuck in mind from that night. With that in mind....trust me people this is the original thanks "eMusic" for that memory
T.M. Such a lovely story. I remember listening to "This Diamond Ring" so many times. It was such an upbeat song and I liked it so much that I didn't realize the songwriter was actually saying "Take this ring away, 'cuz we're not together anymore!" I just thought it was a great love song! LOL. Anyway,I downloaded this song, some time ago, from a different compilation of recordings on eMusic, and I must agree with you, it certainly sounds like the original. Thanks for sharing that moment in time with us. I'm glad you're here to share it. All the best to you and yours.
Most of you are griping that these aren't the "originals"...ok...so DUH!!!! They are remasters, re-recordings but they ARE the same songs. If you want the original 45 sound then why did you toss your 45's away or try shopping a thrift or old record store! Dim Wits!
and these ain't them..i have all of these in my collection.the difference is that i have the original versions.i've been collecting since 1955..trust me.
I only downloaded this one track and while it may or may not be the original recording it sounds pretty good to me.
Song selection is not bad, but most of these are not the original "hit" versions. You will likely be disappointed when you realize it's not the same song you listened to 40 years ago.
