As Good As Anything They've EVER Done

MusicLab

Yeah you read that right from someone who has at least, what?, six or seven Fixx albums. Just listen to "GIrl with No Ceiling"- Fixx 80's with Beatles psychedelia all conjured up in a beautiful 21st century mix. The whole album is stellar, Cy Curnin's voice in great shape, Jamie West-Oram doesn't miss a note on guitar. Wonderful synthesis. The short examples here don't do it justice. Just buy the whole thing. You'll see….

Beautiful Friction - Long Time Coming

pantolips

Just lucky enough to see them last night at The Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA. Their new songs knocked me out. "Anyone Else", "Beautiful Friction", and "What God?" continue their run of great hooks, while "Follow That Cab" was a pleasant surprise with it's unexpected power. This new CD was a long time coming - and well worth the wait. Still relevant after all these years. Rock On.

Beautiful Friction

Beautiful Friction is honesty in advertising; it will rub the listener beautifully with just the proper amount of pleasing friction. If you think you know the Fixx; simply remembering them from the 80’s then you are not doing yourself justice. Not simply a retro group of the 80’s these guys are musicians who have grown their craft; actually very current in their sound and on message with the times. They have a uniqueness allowing them to have kept a sound any Fixxture will immediately recognize. They steadily create music that grows forward from a legacy they manage to keep a handle on that will immensely entertain both long time and new fans alike. I’m a long time fan who lost track of their career, mostly due to the lack of radio airplay (we’ll blame that on poor planning of the part of the music directors). Reintroduced at a live performance a couple of years ago. Now I am fully appreciative of the career this band has put forth. I highly recommend the purchase of this album.

The Fixx. Isn't that a synth-pop band from the 80s? Well. They never were exactly that. And this is not your mom and dad's Fixx even though the music is still undeniably theirs. The album has a nice variety from driving rock songs to slower songs with delightful soundscapes. The title track, "Beautiful Friction", will definitely not rub you the wrong way.

Familiar, and very pleasing!

In my first listen, I REALLY like this. It sounds very familiar, but fresh and new at the same time. Love it so far!
