Pastoral Psychedelia

WatcherofWall

A mind-bending trip into a fairly foreboding and atmospheric record that is nonetheless continually fun and rewarding. Other reviewers have aptly pointed out the Pink Floyd resemblance. This band creates compelling soundscapes that recall post rock but never stray fully from psychedelia. Retro gold, I say.

The Once and Future Kings

This is the best new band I've heard in a long time. (Thanks Emusic) I prefer this one to their first release but BOTH are worth downloading in their entirety. If you like Pink Floyd's "Saucerful of Secrets" and "Ummagumma" phase download this. It's not as heavy as Acid Mother's Temple but it's not that fake neo-psych pop either. If you are uncertain download the title track first to get a taste.

http://www.backwaterrecords.com/product_detail.php?ProductRef=OLKCD016 "On the band’s second full-length Album, The Fate of Old Mother Orvis, the members of The Future Kings of England (guitarist Ian Fitch, bassist Karl Mallett, drummer Simon Green and ably assisted by their producer Steve Mann on keyboards) have wed the post-psychedelic atmosphere of their 2005 self titled debut with acid tinged folk excursions and acoustic woodland eeriness."

Another fantastic effort!

Fans of early-era Pink Floyd, post rock bands like Mogwai, God Speed and psychedelic music should check this one and their debut out. Exceptional retro sounding album from a very promising young English group chalked full of soaring and clanging post rockish guitar lines, trippy atmospherics, haunting mellotron and keyboard swatches. Mostly instrumental.
