Another winner by a wonder
Harold Land was on every recording of the Max Roach-Clifford Brown Quintet except the very last one, when Rollins replaced him. He shadowed Clifford note for note and sometimes excelled him. He maintained the same mastery, forward drive and precision when he went to the W. Coast, his playing beginning to tail off in the '80s. Hear him at his best on the Curtis Counce sessions.
