a long lost favorite
Nice to see the inclusion of this band on the site, even if it is just for this debut single of theirs...would be nicer if the Rough Trade & One Little Indian stuff would make it's way on here. "Toy" is spikey girl pop with keyboards. Amusingly, their career would be bookended by the similiar "Worser" single. Inbetween these, the singles were all abstract slices of dreampop and fuzzed out bliss. B side "I, The Jury" highlights why they made an appropriate opener for bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Wedding Present back in the late 80s. The song simmers until the end when Rose drops the icy detachment and takes to howling. "Make My Day" is more glacial beauty, proving that despite the outward appearance, this act had ambitions that reached farther than their cute but unconfrontational contemporaries The Darling Buds & The Primitives.
