This is the Bonus Disc

papajup

This is the bonus disc from the expanded version of the album-that's why it doesn't sound like the album.

Underrated

sylvania99

The Housemarts were very good. Too bad their best album and most cynical The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death and the beautiful Caravan of Love aren't available.

Second Disk

Ex-Ian

This is the second disk of the deluxe set, consisting largely of BBC recordings. If you already have the regular album, buy this. Else I recommend the deluxe set.

not London 0 Hull 4

soundbitesnyc

I think this is just bbc radio sessions, b-sides and such from the same time as the first album. Sort of what that compilation Now That's What I Call Quite Good was... in fact it might be that renamed (I think the NOW! folks sued them).

In addition to not having the songs from the original album in the original order (there are many bonus tracks), none of the songs sound the same. Given that the band never re-assembled they can't be "re-recordings" like all those notorious "Orchard" releases in the early days of eMusic, but the mixes are totally different and at least one song "We're Not Deep" has different and added lyrics. What's up with this?

And while the go-to easy critical reference point for this Brooklyn band has been another band with a Marr in it, Big Heart is more than a mere Manchester mimeograph. Its songs sway and… more »
